About Our Church

Northwood Advent Christian Church has been in the community for over 140 years. It came out of a dynamic movement in the mid 1800’s calling people to repentance, salvation and service in the name of Jesus who is soon returning in glory. Thousands committed themselves to follow Christ including the founders of this church.

The current structure was built in 1882. While the building hasn’t changed much, the world has. Yet people still have the same needs and desires, that hasn’t changed and the church has the message that still meets the need of the heart for it is Good News! We have a God who made us and loves us and sent a Savior to rescue us and give us hope and peace and life in the midst of a world full of despair, turmoil and death. We have a light in the darkness and by God’s grace He calls us to shine his light in our corner of the world.

Throughout the seasons of the year we are involved in the study of God’s word and putting the Word into action through ministry to our community. We also love to worship the Lord through music and song, new and old, loud and soft. The Bible tells us to “make a joyful noise to the Lord”, and to lift our voice and sing. We would love to have you lift your voice with us.

Vision Statement

Our vision and our purpose is to love God and love people.

The great commandment is “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this; Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.” Mark 12: 29-31.

We will do this through worship together as the family of God (Hebrews 10:25), with music, prayer and proclamation of the Word of God, lifting up Christ crucified, risen and coming again. We will strive to fulfill the commission our Lord gave us to make disciples and bring them to maturity and the “fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-13). And we will endeavor to serve our community in Christian love, sharing the good news of the gospel which “is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” (Romans 12:16).

We want to glorify God by joining Him in his work and mission of love and mercy, making disciples and building his kingdom.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19)

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (Philippians 2:6-11; 1 Peter 3:18; Romans 5:9; Matthew 26:64)

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. (Titus 3:4-7)

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (John 14:15-18; John 16:13; John 16:7-11)

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (1 Corinthians 15:10-23; John 5:28-29)

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:22-23; Acts 2:41-47)
